Before Luke turned two he was featured in the Sunday Styles section of the New York Times. You’d think I’d be accustomed to recieving instant messages and sketches sent via iPhone from my preschooler, but it takes me by surprise every time.
I wonder how access to technology will frame Luke’s world. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a techno-phob. My latest obsession is the Wii Fit. I especially love that a computer game has the ability to give me feedback on my body position. Luke too–his current favorite yoga pose is the tree.
I worry about how to balance this on-slot of technology at such a young age. New studies have shown gadgets to be highly addicting, triggering a release of dopamine in the brain. I don’t want to set Luke up to be a tech junkie in the years ahead. Click here to tell if you’re an addict.
Fortunately at this point he’s also an outdoor junkie-into searching for bugs and trying to catch spiders. As I work to create an equilibrium, I think we’ll both practice our “trees” outside too.
