I think national health care should be our number priority in the US, but unfortunately I'm not in the majority. We could learn much from your system. Of course as you mention every system has issues, but ours has gapping holes. I'm not too familiar with the US medical system but I have heard many stories like yours and it breaks my heart. I'm from Canada and thankfully we have a national medicare system. It's not the best and it certainly has flaws but we can at least count on basic medical care without spending our life savings. My heart goes out to you.
